Breakthrough feature explained

Contents in this article are taken from a test version and could be subject to change for the final version. When this happens, we will inform you.

In this article, we would like to provide more information and a how-to on Breakthrough.

What is it all about?

What is Breakthrough?

Breakthrough is a brand-new feature to buff Apocalypse gear: Equipment Breakthrough! This feature aims to level up your Apocalypse gear to increase the basic attributes and trait effects, further increasing its overall power. To understand what we are talking about, let's have a look at the image below:

Left: Apocalypse Tokens - needed to assemble Apocalypse gear and needed to use Breakthrough
Center: Blueprint - needed to assemble Apocalypse gear and needed to use Breakthrough
Right: Weapon Modification Token - can be used to modify traits of any kind of gear with our Remodeling feature, including Apocalypse gear and Breakthrough Apocalypse gear. We won't go over this in this article. A full explanation of Remodeling can be found here.

What is Apocalypse Gear?

Our highest equipment rarity, even higher than Legendary is called Apocalypse. Apocalypse Gear features an Apocalyptic Trait, for example increasing damage, increasing non-body shot chances, and reducing damage taken when fighting against high-level walkers. The larger the level gap is, the more effective these traits are.

Apocalyptic Damage

When attacking enemies who are {0} level higher than the user, for every further {1} level higher, weapon damage increases by {2}% (up to a maximum of {3}%)

Apocalyptic Body Shot

When attacking enemies who are {0} levels higher than the user, for every further {1} levels higher, the chance of normal attack bodyshots decreases by {2}% (up to a minimum of {3}%)

Apocalyptic Defense

When attacked by an enemy who is {0} level higher than the user, for each {1} level higher, the total damage received decreases by {2}% (can be stacked with damage reduction, and can be reduced up to {3}%)

Values are explained later in this article, under 'Level up Apocalyptic Traits'.

How to get Apocalypse gear

1: Obtain a Blueprint

To assemble Apocalypse gear, your starting point is to get a Blueprint. Blueprints can be obtained in various ways.

Campaign

Camp > Click in the bottom-left corner on the icon to the left of Seven-Day Login Rewards.

In Campaigns, you can obtain rewards by playing the game, including a Blueprint at 1.750 Campaign Tokens. At 3.000 Campaign Tokens, you can also obtain 60 Apocalypse Tokens. If this changes in the future, we will edit this article.

Equipment Radio Calls

Camp > Radio > Collect Equipment & Resources

With Equipment Radio Calls, you get a Luck Point for every attempt. The more Luck Points, the more chance to obtain the Blueprint for the specified Equipment Radio Call, with a guaranteed Blueprint at 80 Luck Points. It's also possible to obtain Apocalypse Tokens from Equipment Radio Calls.

Bundle Shop and Trade Fair

The Bundle Shop and Trade Fair offers Blueprints in a rotation, most of the time for $9.99, including extras like Hero Tokens, Components, and Trade Goods. There are also bundles that offer Apocalypse Tokens.

Webshop

The Webshop offers a wide variety of Blueprints for $9.99, including extras like Hero Tokens, Components, and Trade Goods. There are also bundles that offer Apocalypse Tokens.

2: Obtain 200 Apocalypse Tokens

200 Apocalypse Tokens and a Blueprint are needed to assemble Apocalypse Gear. Besides Campaigns, Equipment Radio Calls, Bundles, and Webshop (see above), Apocalypse Tokens can be obtained in Last Stand (after completing Wave 4), Black Market (150 Gold for 1 Token), and Trade Goods (30.000 Trade Goods for 1 Token). The Seven Day Login Rewards event also often offers Apocalypse Tokens.

It's also possible to scrap earlier assembled Apocalypse gear. From Camp, go to Workshop and click the Apocalypse icon on the bottom left next to the normal scrapping icon (trash can). Then click the equipment you want to scrap to receive 50 Apocalypse Tokens. Please note that you won't get XP when using the scrapping method for Apocalypse Tokens.

3: Assembling

Go to Camp > Workshop and click the switch featuring a screwdriver. Apocalypse gear ready for assembling is shown there, with colorful tools above the equipment class when equipment for said class is available.

After assembling your Apocalypse gear, the equipment is on your normal list of weapons and ready to be upgraded. The required Blueprint and Apocalypse Tokens are removed from your inventory.

Alternative: get instant assembled gear

Our Survival Pass, Bundle Shop, Trade Fair, and Webshop sometimes feature already fully assembled Apocalyptic gear. This of course means that you can skip step 1 to 3. Image of Survival Pass below to give you an example.

Leveling up using Breakthrough

How to Breakthrough

Now that you have Apocalypse Gear, it's time to look at Breakthrough.

  1. Each Apocalypse gear is qualified for Breakthrough after unlocking their 3 basic traits.
  2. After clicking your Apocalypse Gear, tap the Breakthrough button to enter the Breakthrough window.
  3. Choose a Blueprint on the left (or click the 'Automatic Selection' button).
  4. Click 'Equipment Breakthrough' to upgrade your equipment to the next level.
  5. The required Blueprint and Apocalypse Tokens are now removed from your inventory.
  6. The Breakthrough level is displayed above the Breakthrough button.

Levels of Breakthrough

Each Breakthrough level is an upgrade. With weapons, Attack Buff % and Damage are increased per level, while HP Buff % and HP are increased for Armor. Besides that, each Breakthrough level also upgrades your Traits, going from Silver/Gold/Gold all the way to Gold/Apocalyptic/Apocalyptic/Apocalyptic (That's right, 4 Traits!). See the table below.

Calculating Attack buff %, Damage increase, HP buff % and HP increase is shown in this example below:

Let's say that you have a CRM Trident at level 35, which normally does 10.830 damage. After upgrading it to Breakthrough 1, you get 10% Attack buff % and 761 Damage increase. This means the new value should be (10.830 * 1.10) + 761 = 12.674. Please note however that values displayed are rounded up or down based on decimals. Actual values could differ 1 point.

Level up Apocalyptic Traits

At the start of this article, we mentioned the Apocalyptic Traits. The values for these traits will increase as well. Values are Class dependent; equipment for Assault equipment can for example differ from equipment for Bruisers.

Costs to level up

Remember those Apocalypse Tokens and Blueprints you had to gather? You need them again! Each level-up requires a Blueprint. For some levels, you need the exact same Blueprint (level 2/4/6), while for other levels it's enough to have a Blueprint of the same Class (levels 1/3/5). For example, if you upgrade the CRM Trident (Warrior) and have a Blueprint for Morning Star (Warrior), you can use this Blueprint to level up to levels 1/3/5, but not to level up to levels 2/4/6.

If you have a Blueprint for a certain equipment's skin, it counts towards upgrading the same weapon and it can be used at any level. For example, the Atlantic Trident and the CRM Trident's Blueprints count as the same weapon.

You also need Apocalypse Tokens, starting with 50 to upgrade to level 1 up to 200 to upgrade to level 4/5/6.

Notes and Restrictions

  • We are aware that equipping Apocalypse Gear on Guild Wars' Defenders is not bug-free, and we are working hard to resolve that.
